Every year around Black Friday we’re tempted to go along with the crowds that turn the season of celebrating Messiah’s birth into a spending frenzy. In this message on Elijah, we see the prophet take up the spiritual leadership of God’s people after the kings of Judah are seduced into compromising with the gods of the nations that surrounded them. The price of an uncompromised faith always seems high until we see the cost of losing touch with God’s priorities for our lives.

What is the significance of the Torah in the life of a follower of Yeshua?
Many dismiss the Pentateuch as irrelevant Law with no understanding of how its revelations underlie everything that we call grace in the B’rit Chadasha. Others are concerned that Messianic Jews who have begun their faith journey in Yeshua’s freedom will surrender to legalism.
During our summer request series, the question was asked, “Why did God give us the Torah?” As we explore these issues we must confront centuries of Christian culture layered with anti-Semitism and misunderstanding. The question demands a much more comprehensive answer than we could give here—but this is an introduction to issues that are central to Messianic Judaism today.

Simchat Torah Message
duration: 38:48 min.
At Simchat Torah, as we conclude the reading of Deuteronomy and immediately continue with Genesis 1, we contemplate the full scope of the Torah’s message – from the mountaintop where Moshe looks out onto the land of promise – but can’t enter – to the pinnacle moment of creation.
We examine how the Torah speaks of Messiah, both in deliberate prophecy and in subtle nuance, how we struggle to find good in a fallen world and finally, how the B’rit Hadashah meshes so closely with the Torah’s promise of Messiah.

Isaiah – A Prophet for our Times
duration: 52:37 min.
This week marks the 50th anniversary of August 28, 1963 and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. This talk opens with a story from that memorable day.
Our thematic overview of Isaiah, the man and his message, focuses on his foundational vision: the holiness of God. Isaiah’s ministry was remarkably long and includes some of the darkest days in the history of Judah, when that small, vulnerable and spiritually flawed kingdom was surrounded by militant empires. His authentic voice of faith and hope has left a legacy that reaches into our own day. Truly he is a prophet for our times.

Ever have any regrets? At times we reflect on decisions that have left us with deep wounds and sorrow, but we’re not meant to live in a rut created by mistakes of the past.
This talk introduces us to Mark and his Gospel and shows us how his life was transformed out of repeated challenges that might have left him stuck in regret.
In preparation for the High Holidays, I offer this message as a means to reflect and renew hope in God’s power to bring the best out of our lives.

In celebration of Israel Independence Day (April 16, 2013) I describe some of the important, if lesser known characters and events that helped to establish the modern State of Israel. In particular, I pay homage to the English visionaries whose efforts in the 1840’s inspired a later generation of politicians to support the Jewish people returning to the Holy Land.
